Meeting Standard Professional Performance
- Credentials: There are no required certifications/proficiencies/licenses within the field of Family Studies. However, I maintain my license to practice law, which is relevant for my disciplinary work.
- Professional organizations: I maintain my membership in my discipline's premier academic organization, the National Council on Family Relations, and serve as an officer in its regional chapter, the Utah Council on Family Relations.
- Staying current in my discipline: As described elsewhere in this portfolio, I subscribe to that National Council on Family Relations' research journals and incorporate research into my classes. In addition, I attend the national conference when funding permits, and I attend the regional affiliate's conference (the Utah Council on Family Relations) each year.
- Sharing information from conferences: Before each conference, I send the agenda out to all full- and part-time faculty in FHS, Education, Social Work, and Learning Enhancement, asking for requests regarding which conference sessions I should attend, so I can bring back information from those sessions. I then accommodate as many of those requests as possible and, upon my return, share my notes/handouts/etc. with my colleagues.
- Maintaining my portfolio: This website fulfills that standard, obviously.
- Participating in pedagogical development: I have completed various professional development trainings/courses, such as the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) Effective Instruction program, SLCC Canvas User Credential, SLCC Online Teacher Credential, Livestream Teacher Credential, Artificial Intelligence workshops, Level 1 of the Equitable and Inclusive Teaching Practices, Applying the Quality Matters Rubric training, Antiracism workshops, First Amendment workshop, The Art and Craft of Remote Teaching (from UC Riverside XCITE), Copyright Ethics certification, and many others. The Training Transcript below reflects only formal training events at the College; it does not reflect ongoing participation in informal trainings, supervisor trainings, one-on-one consultations/training with school/college leaders, etc.
